Quick Halloween Craft: Jack-o-Lantern Stands and Treat Trays

October 25, 2014 by Pam 12 Comments

Last-Minute Halloween treat tray jack-o-lantern stand tutorial

This is a really quick, easy project and the end result can either be used as a stand for your jack-o-lantern or as a serving tray for Halloween treats. They don’t take long to make, either, so there’s still time to make a few!

For each stand you’ll need:

  1. A small clay flower pot – mine were 4″ tall
  2. A large clay flower pot dish (you know, that saucer-like thing that catches drips) – mine were 10″ across
  3. Black paint (I used black spray paint but craft paint should work, too)
  4. Craft adhesive like E6000
  5. Glue gun and glue sticks
  6. Assorted trim and decorations

Paint the outside of the small pot and both sides of the dish black and let them dry. Turn dish upside down and center a pot in the middle of it, right side up. Glue the two pieces together with the craft adhesive.

Once the adhesive sets, turn the whole thing right side up and decorate. That’s all there is to it!

I used craft packs of buttons from my local Joann’s store, rickrack and googly eyes to decorate mine. Since I knew the glue would likely ooze through the button holes and stick to my fingers, I used a low temp glue gun. Still messy, but no blisters!

Halloween treat stand trim

To get the buttons to line up with no gaps, I measured the circumference of the tray top then used a yardstick as a guide . I layed out the buttons and trim and rearranged the placement until they came out to the right measurement. Then I just worked my way down the line of buttons, glueing on one at a time.

Cute project! What a great idea to lay out the buttons ahead of time so you don’t get any bad gaps at the end.

    Hi Pam!

What a fun way to decorate for Halloween! I loved that you just used some flower pots turned upside down! I didn’t even realize that that is what it was at first. Loved the colored buttons as well. Thanks for partying with us at Talented Tuesday! Hope you are having a great week!
    Cheers,
    AJ
