Lately I’ve been using a Daytimer Malibu as my day-to-day planner and a mini black Filofax Finchley as my wallet. I headed to the office supply store over the weekend looking for card holders for both and came up with nothing. A package of 5 sheets of card holders for the Daytimer was $5.99, which seemed outrageous and I didn’t find anything that would fit the Finchley, so I ended up making my own.
I started looking around for something I could hack and came up with this for $12.99:
Perfect! From there, all I needed to make card holders for both planners were a few basic supplies: a ruler, Xacto knife, hole punch and some washi tape.
I opened the card case up flat and cut right along the center seam to remove a few of the pages. I left as much of the extra plastic along the center of the pages as I could.
For the Daytimer, I used one of my divider pages as a guide and trimmed the extra plastic down to size.
Then I covered the edge with some washi tape and used the same divider as a guide to punch holes.
Ta-da! One card holder that took all of two minutes to make. I made four more and decorated them with different tapes.
Now for the Filofax version. I cut out another page, turned it sideways and added a card to test the size. The card pockets are just a little shorter than the cards, so I marked a line on the raw edge just above the card edge and trimmed off the excess.
The Filofax is only big enough for a single card holder per page, which meant the center pocket got trimmed down to create the punched edge for the pockets on either end.
Then I added washi tape, punched the pages and stuck them in the Filofax.
Perfect fit! And I have plenty of pages left to make more as I need them.
